make me up before you go go

Make Me Up, Before You Go, Go // ColourPop

(Review in English below the Serbian version)

Šta to znači?

Paleta košta čitavih 16$, a dobijate 12 predivnih i raznolikih nijansi.

Do tad, voli vas vaša K.

Today we are talking about a brand with which a very small number of people in Serbia and the region in general are familiar with. One of the reasons for this is the fact that the products of ColourPop cosmetics are sold exclusively on their site. This means that there is nowhere in the world a shop which you can accidentally walk into and find their products. This is also the reason why their products are incredibly affordable, and according to reviews of American makeup bloggers, are highly esteemed and deserve our attention.  Namely, most of the cosmetic products we use are formulated, assembled, placed in packaging and finally delivered to shops or individual customers in a rather complex way with which I am not completely fully familiarized, but for example, the laboratory is in one country, the product is finalized in the second one, tested and placed in packaging in a third and then delivered to the “country of origin” of the brand and from there comes to us. This process is not only long but also expensive for the brand, and it’s no wonder that we sometimes give an obscene amount of money for just one item. Here, ColourPop stands out. Namely, the brand owns its own laboratory and production as well as a laboratory for testing the quality of products and everything is in California. What does it mean? It means that the entire process, from formulation to the final product, takes place in a single location, which significantly reduces the total cost of production. In addition, the fact that there is only an online store allows this brand to offer its products at extremely favorable prices. Now, there are a large number of drugstore products that are equally affordable, but ColourPop offers a far better price-quality ratio, which has brought them numerous awards, consumer loyalty and the support of numerous fashion and beauty magazines. Now that we’ve got to know a little bit about the brand, let’s get to know more about the product, the first one that came into my hands, but definitely not the last.

In case you follow any of the American YouTube makeup bloggers, KathleenLights should become one of your favorites. Not only does she know makeup, but she is also incredibly positive, natural, and sweet, does not play YouTube diva. Just a sweet and terrific gal whose reviews I love to watch. It is through her videos that I actually got to know about ColourPop. She often mentions the brand on her channel, and not only that, but has collaborated with them on several occasions in creating a number of products, of which Dream St. eyeshadow palette is just one of many. Since the pallet got excellent ratings from other bloggers, even those who are known for their love for more luxurious brands, I decided it’s time for me to try it myself, so I went on their site, found the palette and added it to the shopping cart . The palette costs $16, and you get 12 beautiful and versatile shades. Shipping is $9 (but free for purchases amounting to $50 or more). Now, it may not have been wise to pay for shipping almost as much as for the palette itself, but first of all, I did not want to order more than one product because I first wanted to test the brand before I commit to a brand – something I do with people as well, – small doses, so we’ll see what happens next. Besides, on the first purchase, I got a $5 discount, so the entire amount was $ 20, which is really not terrible.

The palette itself arrived from California much earlier than I expected – in just 13 days, which is extremely praiseworthy because we wait for certain orders from Europe – I’m looking at you BookDepository – far longer. Now let’s see if the price / quality ratio is as promised and what we can do with this palette.

As you can see on the photo (which is without a filter for a credible shade representation), we have 12 very versatile shadows. The palette contains six matte shades, five metallics and one with a satin (semi-matte) finish. The matte shades are the first two – Shooting star and Magical – brown with golden tones and brown with peach tones. These two shades are perfect for a simple everyday look that is perfectly suited for daytime look, work or women that are generally inclined towards calmer earthy tones. In the matte family there is a dark turquoise shade that gives a stronger and more aggressive look that can look great if it is well-blended, but it is definitely for those who are a little braver and prefer stronger eye makeup. Then we have a rusty red and bright red matte shade that, to my great surprise, do not seem to be as ‘out-there’ as I had expected. They somehow make the eyes make fun and I personally am in love with them. The last matte shade is that warm chocolate brown I honestly did not even try because I figured that such dark brown make my eyes look boring, but I believe that many of you live for just this kind of color. As for the shadows with a metallic finish, we have an absolutely perfect copper shade called Star Dust which is one of my favorites, because you can literally apply it with your finger, add a little mascara on your lid and be fully prepared. Right next to it, there is this rose gold shade called Twinkle, which disappointed me at first, because on this kind of formula didn’t work well with the brush and the color payoff wasn’t impressive. However, after a while I realized that the metallic shadows were somewhat scattered, which it is not unusual, and it is best to apply them for the best pigmentation have a tendency to crumble so it’s best to use your finger for maximum pigment payoff. Then they really look great. At the beginning of the second row is a cute and neutral champagne hue, perfect for the center of the eyelid and the inner corner of the eye if you want to trick people into thinking that you have had a good night’s sleep or that you are not hungover from the previous night, although you can achieve a similar effect with a slightly colder silver shade called Kaleidoscope. The last shadow in the metallic family is another turquoise shade, somewhat brighter and of course more shimmery than that from the matte family, great for evening outings. The only shadow with a satin finish is that baby pink named Moony, and it is a shade that you will always use as a base for any look, simple or bold, because this is the perfect neutral shade you apply across the entire lid to prepare it for the colors to come. As for pigmentation, it is fantastic and the palette that can compete with many, far more expensive palettes. My first impression of the metallic shades was not good until I found the hack – if you want everything to end up on your eyelids and not brushes and your vanity, use your fingers – if the famous makeup artist Pat McGrath can do it, what could we?

Unlike some of the people in my life, this brand, with the help of this great palette, passed the test and the basket will be full of new goodies the next time. If you are interested in something, I’ve done a bit of digging and some of the most highly praised products are their highlighter palettes, Gimme More and In-Nude-Endo, which according to reviews give this “wet” highlighter look. There is also an individual highlighter pan called Flexiterian and a highly praised No Filter Matte Concealer. There are also beautiful palettes of nine shades called Mar and Sol, which can be bought together or separately. Opinions on their new foundation are mixed, but the fact that they paid attention to the different undertones had already intrigued me, so I’m willing to risk $ 12 to see if it’s a hit or a miss.

I hope this, yes, very long review has helped you, and that you will be paying more attention to great brands that are hidden from us only because of the damn geography, but if we can bridge the ocean we for only nine dollars or even zero If you choose to refill the basket, why not? I definitely want more of ColourPop in the future, because this brand is seriously threatening to save my wallet, but we’ll see how things will unfold. Until then, Xoxo, K.
